On January 21, the traditional meeting of the bishops with journalists and the public took place at the bishop’s residence of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Diocese located on A. Bachinsky Sq. in Uzhgorod.

At the meeting, they reviewed the results of the past year and presented biennial Diocesan M. Luchkay Prize. Previously, the event took place in the Consistory Hall, this year – in the restored lower floor of the residence, where the Diocesan Museum will soon open.

The event began with the performance of a women’s quartet from the Greek Catholic Church in the village of Poroshkovo, Perechyn district. Then Bishop Milan presented the M. Luchkay Award. For the first time in its history, it was awarded not for research work, but for fiction. The 2019 winner is Uzhgorod writer and playwright Oleksandr Havrosh for his children’s book "A Christmas Story of Tail the Donkey."

As for the year 2019, the main event for the diocese was the December week-long pilgrimage to Italian Rome to mark the 30th anniversary of the legalization of the Greek Catholic Church in Transcarpathia. "1000 people participated in it, it was the largest pilgrimage in the history of our diocese," – Milan Shashik summed up.

The event ended with caroling and display of the first exhibits in the museum.
