“Quiet hunting” can be dangerous: Transcarpathian rescuers are looking for lost mushroom pickers

In the evening of the 16th, at night and in the morning of 17th of October, local residents four times appealed to the Rescue Service for help in finding lost relatives.

In the first case, the rescuers received a call from the wife of a resident of the village of Svalyavka in Perechyn district, who reported that her husband had gone to the forest for mushrooms on October 15 and did not return. Specialists of the Uzhgorod Mountain Search and Rescue Department and local residents were looking for the 67-year-old man. Search teams inspected the forest near the villages of T. Bystra and Svalyavka and at 19:50 one of the search groups found the man in good condition.

In the second case, a mushroom picker from Mukachevo got lost. The report about it was received by the Rescue Service at 19:55, and at 22:45 the 63-year-old lost woman was found by mountain rescuers near the village of Pavshino, Mukachevo district. Her health condition was good.

On the night of October 17, rescuers received a third call that a man born in 1958, a resident of the village of Kolchyno, Mukachevo district, had gone to pick up mushrooms in the forest near the village of Zhborivtsi and got lost. The rescuer’s wife informed rescuers about it at 01:30. During the search at 05:25 the wife of the lost man called the specialists of the mountain search and rescue department of Mukachevo and said that he had returned home by himself and did not need help.

And in the morning, on October 17, local residents once again called rescuers for help in the search. Locals reported that on October 13, a resident of the village of Chorna Tysa, Rakhiv district, born in 1958, had gone to the forest to pick up mushrooms in the area of ​​the Apshenyaska mountain meadow of Rakhiv district and did not return. Specialists from three search and rescue departments of the Rakhiv Mountain Search and Rescue Group were engaged in his search. Unfortunately, at 13:40 on October 17, rescuers found the man’s body in the woods. Law enforcement officers will establish the cause of death.
