In Transcarpathia, the SBU prevented the export of almost 9 kilograms of metallic mercury (PHOTOS)

In Transcarpathian region, the Security Service of Ukraine prevented the smuggling of a highly toxic dangerous substance – metallic mercury – into Europe.  According to the preliminary version, a resident of the region planned to smuggle almost 9 kilograms of mercury across the border for subsequent sale abroad. Law enforcement officers detained the man’s vehicle at the checkpoint "Vylok". During an in-depth inspection, a dangerous product was found in the trunk of the car. The origin of the toxic substance and buyers of the "goods" are currently being established. Investigators of the security service opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Art. 15, Part 1 of Art. 201 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are underway. The measures to expose the smuggling were carried out jointly with the Transcarpathian Customs of the State Customs Service, the State Border Guard Service under the procedural control of the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor’s Office.
