The "Kirpichka" in Uzhgorod is one step closer to being called a park (PHOTOS)
A public hearing to discuss, in particular, the detailed plan of the territory bounded by Cyril and Methodius Square, Mynaiska Street, 8 Bereznya Street (to the secondary school No. 19), the secondary schools No. 12, 15 and Zankovetska Street was held this week in Uzhgorod. The center of this quarter is Peremoha Park, or "Kirpichka" as it is called by the townspeople. Because of this, the discussion was attended by representatives of the Kirpichka community initiative, whose members have been fighting for several years to ensure that the area around the lake is not built up but acquire the status of a recreational zone.
9.9 hectares of land has been allocated for the future park on the detailed plan submitted to the City Council for consideration. Once the local brick factory stopped using this territory for industrial purposes, the city authorities turned the pit of 15.5 hectares into the Peremoha Park. However, in 2007, the park lost its status as a recreation area, and the city government transferred 6 hectares of the park for development. For more than two recent years, residents of the area and activists who established the Kirpichka Initiative Group have been going to courts to have a single green zone in this part of the city. Finally, not long ago, the court returned these lands to the community, but the "Kirpichka" is still not considered a park officially.
The detailed plan of the territory was presented at public hearings
A representative of the initiative group “Kirpichka” Mykola Yatskov told “Pro Zahid” that no one has been punished for falsifying the documentation that took place in 2007. "The prosecutor's office of the region promised to find out because we do not know who specifically did so that the Peremoha Park would lose the status of the park, although it is known that it was done in the City Council, - Mr. Mykola said. - Let this issue be clarified by law enforcement agencies, as this territory is now officially an area of residential and commercial development. In order for the park to become a park again, a few more steps must be taken. The detailed territory plan will be submitted for consideration by city deputies after this public hearing. After that, it will be necessary to approve the boundaries of the park and identify the area as recreational. And then we can start planning the park itself: paths, new access roads, plants, benches, lighting and more. If the current city authorities do not manage to do this before the local election, then it will be the task of the next government."
