Scandalous diplomat: "Honorary" Consul of Latvia was detained at Transcarpathian customs office (PHOTOS, VIDEO)
Due to the failure to comply with the legal orders of border guards at the customs post "Tisa", because of suspected smuggling, an Honorary Consul of the Republic of Latvia in Uzhgorod was handcuffed.
This was reported by public activist Vitaliy Gregor.
This incident took place last night, around 9:00 pm, at the checkpoint "Tisa" of the Transcarpathian Customs.
A car Toyota with diplomatic license plates DP345006 driven by a citizen of Ukraine Yuriy Ignatko born on 21.04.1990 was leaving Ukraine via the "green corridor" lane. For passport control, Y. Ignatko presented the certificate of honorary consulate of the Latvian republic in Uzhgorod, but the staff of the post suspected that it had been tampered with.
The driver Y. Ignatko refused to present the car for inspection by the customs officers and would not leave the car for about 5 hours. The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations does not provide for privileges for this category of persons. Therefore, the car was forcibly opened, and the offender was handcuffed.
Operational measures were carried out by employees of the customs post, the State Border Guard Service and the Security Service of Ukraine's "K" department, who continue to investigate the matter further.
