Attention! Discrimination against Ukrainian citizens who worked abroad and returned home

With the introduction of the state of emergency, cases of discrimination against Ukrainian citizens, who have worked abroad and returned home due to the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus disease, have become more frequent.
The media and social networks are spreading reports of threats against such citizens, as well as other manifestations of pressure on them, including the dissemination of negative, disparaging statements against them and their families.
Naturally, a large number of Ukrainian citizens are currently facing the problem of unemployment, social insecurity, inability to provide themselves and their families with the essentials, which has led to an increase in the number of negative statements addressed to certain groups of people.
It is important to remember that while we are overcoming the crisis, we must not forget about tolerance, respect for the rights and freedoms of other people, mutual support and assistance to those who need it most.
In view of the above, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Lyudmila Denisova appeals to the representatives of state authorities and local self-government with a request to take all possible measures to ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens who have returned from abroad and need protection, and also calls on Ukrainians to respect the rights and freedoms of their fellow citizens and to be sensitive to the circumstances in which they have found themselves.
