The detainees were caught selling 46 counterfeit one-hundred dollar notes.
Under the procedural control of the Prosecutor’s Office of Transcarpathian region, officers and detectives of the Transcarpathian regional police detained two persons suspected of manufacturing, storage and sale of counterfeit foreign currency bill in the territory of Transcarpathia (Part 2 of Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Thus, a resident of Mukachevo was forging 200- and 500-hryvnia banknotes, which he further distributed in the territory of the region. Another detainee, a resident of Rakhiv, was selling counterfeit $ 100 banknotes. The criminals were selling the counterfeit notes at 50% of their face value.
As a result of the searches in the cities of Mukachevo and Rakhiv, policemen seized significant sums of banknotes in national and foreign currencies – both with the signs of counterfeiting and the proceeds from selling counterfeits.
As a result of the special operation, both criminals were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine. The involvement of other persons is being established.
Urgent investigation measures are being taken. The counterfeiters are suspected of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 199 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Further pre-trial investigation is underway.
