People couldn't leave the building by themselves: details of a fire in a high-rise building in Transcarpathia (PHOTOS)
The first to be rescued were two pensioners residing in apartments located on the fifth floor.
According to the SES of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region, on November 27 at 19:27, Khust rescuers received a report of a fire in a multi-storey apartment building on Kyivska embankment. An apartment on the fifth floor was burning.
Firefighters of the 12th state fire and rescue unit of the city of Khust were sent at the scene. Two pieces of equipment and 10 personnel were employed.
“At the time of the arrival of the fire fighters at the scene, there was no one in the burning apartment. The rescuers split into several groups: some were extinguishing the fire and others began evacuating residents of the house out of the danger zone,” - the report reads.
The first to be rescued were two pensioners residing in apartments located on the fifth floor. Due to the heavy smoke and old age, they could not get out of the danger zone. Rescuers put oxygen masks on the old people and helped them get outside. Then, the first responders notified the residents of the lower floors. In total, 13 people were evacuated.
“At 19:37, the fire over an area of about 10 sq.m. was contained, and at 20:17 it was completely eliminated.
The cause of the fire and the material damage caused are being established. The fire destroyed furniture and household items. There were no casualties in the fire,” - the firefighters informed.
