An enterprise engaged in illegal extraction of gravel and sand mixture was shut down in Transcarpathia

Large-scale illegal mining was carried out in the riverbeds of the Tisa, Tereblya and Teresva rivers in Tyachiv district of Transcarpathia, the press center of the Security Service of Ukraine informs.
The special service operatives found out that officials of the Tyachiv Inter-district Water Management Department, in collusion with private entrepreneurs, organized the illegal extraction and sale of sand and gravel mixture. The illegal activity was carried out under the guise of clearing and regulating river beds.
The dealers were mining at nine sites. At just one of them, the losses incurred by the state amounted to almost UAH 10 million.
According to experts, the illegal activity could have led to a man-made disaster in the region.
Law enforcement officers found more than twenty pieces of heavy machinery engaged in illegal activities. The request for arrest is being prepared.
At the sites of illegal extraction, urgent investigative activities are being carried out to record and document illegal actions, the responsibility for which is provided by Art. 364 (abuse of power or office) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The operation was carried out under the procedural control of the regional prosecutor’s office with the involvement of ecological inspectorate.
