A million euros for the White Elephant
The high-altitude astronomical and meteorological observatory located on the Mount Pip Ivan has hope for restoration. Its construction began in 1936, it is in disrepair, but not completely destroyed.
On February 22, in the city of Yaremche, a grant agreement was signed between Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Poland on the project "Adaptation of the former observatory on the Mount Pop Ivan to the needs of the high-altitude rescue center" within the framework of the EU Cross-Border Cooperation Program Poland-Belarus-Ukraine (PL-BU-UA) 2014-2020. The grant amount is 1 million 53 thousand euros. This was reported by the university.
It is planned to establish at the observatory on the Mount Pip Ivan (the Chornohora Range, the Carpathians), known as the White Elephant, the International Scientific Center "Observatory" of the Precarpathian University and Warsaw University (Republic of Poland).
The corresponding grant agreement was signed by Vasyl Stefanyk Precarpathian National University and the Ministry of Investment and Development of the Republic of Poland.
In particular, it is planned to install modern meteorological equipment, purchase the necessary rescue vehicles and modern equipment for Ukrainian and Polish rescue units. It will help to carry out search and rescue operations in the highlands. Part of the money will be spent for repairs and arrangement of the premises within the scope of the project, - the "Vsesvit" informs.
