"Precious History" is already available

Transcarpathian Museum of Local Lore has issued a unique calendar with a collection of valuable exhibits, many of which are not available to visitors and kept in the museum's vaults, the Transcarpathian Heritage reported.

One of the treasures of the museum is the sword of Transylvanian prince and Polish king Istvan Batory dated from 1576.

The saber was made in 1576 as one of two ceremonial sabers for the coronation of Istvan Batory. The precious weapon ended up in the collection of the historian and archaeologist Tivodar Lehotsky in 1881 and for some time was kept in Mukachevo.

The hand guard of the saber is decorated with silver and gold with engraved bust of Istvan Batory and monogram B.S. (Batory Stefan). Also, the grip is inlaid with rubies and pearls.

Among other exhibits featured in the calendar, there is one of the most valuable Transcarpathian historical relics - elements of horse harness with blue and yellow ribbons presented in 1775 by the Austrian Empress Maria Theresia to the Bishop of the Mukachevo Greek Catholic Diocese Andriy Bachinsky.

The author of the concept and pictures of the calendar is photographer Serhiy Hudak. The idea was suggested by Margarita Moschak.

The calendar for 2019 "Precious History" can be purchased in the souvenir shop on the territory of the Uzhgorod castle.
