The equestrian statue of Ferenc Rakoczi II, the leader of the fight for the independence of Hungary, has been brought to the Budapest Square in Beregovo. The Hungarian media announced the unveiling of the monument on December 17.
The initiators of the erection of the Ferenc Rakoczi II equestrian monument are the Hungarian Culture Society of Transcarpathia (KMKSZ).
The pedestal for the monument with the inscription "Sum Deo pro Patria et Libertate!" ("With God for Fatherland and Freedom") was installed back in June. Meanwhile, it is still unknown whether the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine has given its opinion on the erection of this monument and, thus, without the permission, the ceremony may not take place on December 17 as planned.
The author of the sculpture is Hungarian artist Lajos Gyorfi.
