Poisonous spiders are found in Transcarpathian forests (PHOTOFACT)

Photographer and local historian Oleksandr Bogdanov wrote about the poisonous spider online.

"Argiope bruennichi. Scientists claim that it is the most poisonous spider in Transcarpathia. Want to touch? Perhaps those scientists are lying…" – Oleksander wrote.

In addition, the publication 0312.ua found some interesting facts about the spider on the site naturalist.uzhgorod.ua.

The species is named after the Danish zoologist Morten Bruennich (1737-1827). In Transcarpathia, it is quite rare. Usually, the male is small, 7 mm in length, the female can reach 4 cm with straight legs.  Female argyopia are prone to eating males, but not always.

The coloring of the abdomen is similar to wasp, which is why the spider is called wasp spider.

The poison is weak, not deadly for humans. The bite can be very painful (like a wasp bite) and the pain lasts for a long time (up to three days).

It does not attack humans unless it sees them as a threat.
