On the occasion of the Day of Museum Selfie, the Ukrinform correspondents from Transcarpathia discovered a unique palette of works by the artist Fedir Manaylo – his series of decorated pumpkins. The artist Fedir Manaylo in Transcarpathia is known as one of the pillars of the Transcarpathian School of Painting. On the other side of the Carpathians, he is known for his collaboration with the legendary director Paradzhanov on the film "The Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors".

– There are roughly a hundred decorated pumpkins, Fedir Manaylo began to create them in the mid-1960s, and continued making them till the end of his life. The grandfather died in 1978, so all of them were made in the course of just over a decade, – granddaughter of the artist Victoria Manaylo-Prikhodko, the director of the artist’s museum house in Uzhgorod, where this unique collection of engraved pumpkins is kept, says. – The works were treated with formaldehyde by the artist himself – that is, almost 40 years ago. But, obviously, they need to be cared for by restorers.
