Autumn-2017: festivals, scandals and mushroom boom (PHOTOS)
Autumn, warm and gold Transcarpathian season, the season of harvest and yet a tourist season. The most memorable moments of autumn-2017 through the eyes of our author, photographer Serhiy Hudak. Uzhgorod.in already reviewed winter, spring and summer. And here are the most significant events and images of the autumn in Uzhgorod and in Transcarpathia!
Going to school for the first time! The festive line-up on September 1 is very touching.
Day of Athletics on Narodna Square - the opportunity for athletes to show their talents.
Transcarpathian grape! The harvesting has begun: soon the grape will become a noble drink.
The most controversial topic of the year is the language aspect of the educational law. Activists and visitors are not allowed at the session of the Transcarpathian Regional Council. The reason is the anticipated protests regarding the adoption by the deputies of an appeal to Kyiv concerning the languages of national minorities.
"Winemaking. Wedding." The Transcarpathian folk choir presented in Uzhgorod castle an original program about the Transcarpathian colorful customs associated with the harvesting of grapes and weddings.
Mushroom season began in Transcarpathia. Soon it will turn into a real boom. Many mushrooms are sold at markets, people take baskets and go to look for mushrooms themselves.
Uzhgorod hosts the first international open cynologist championship of the National Police of Ukraine.
Drugets have started to reign in Uzhgorod. In 2018, it will have been exactly 700 years since the reign of Drugets in the main city of Transcarpathia. On this occasion, on September 27, 2017, the festival, which will take place this year, was announced with a theatrical event. According to the script, simple people rebelled against the newly arrived rulers and were defeated by the army. It was very spectacular and a bit funny.
Golden autumn! Transcarpathian architectural monuments look particularly beautiful in the frame of yellowed leaves.
Language controversy continues. Language innovations in the educational law are being actively discussed in the region. Politicians and the community are arguing. But soon the Venice Commission will support the article on languages and say "yes" to Ukrainian innovations in Ukrainization.
Truck drivers riot. Customs office processes trucks too slowly, multi-kilometer queues are formed on the border. It does not suit both the truckers and ordinary drivers. The former even block the roads to draw attention to the problem, despite the fact that traffic congestion is mainly caused by foreign customs officers.
Halloween, despite its foreign origin, is becoming a part of the calendar of Uzhgorod events. This time, volunteers used this opportunity to launch the charity campaign "Witch's place": they reminded about mystical traditions of the region and raised money to support the soldiers.
Uzhgorod hosts an incredible volunteer project. The exhibition "If It Were Not for the War" is about the stories of people whose lives were changed forever by the events that we all know of. And also, the stories of their loved ones. There is a lot of truth here, a lot of pride and a lot of heart. And a lot of pain.
Cultural event of the year. A unique exhibition valuable both in terms of quality and historical content was arranged in the Uzhgorod castle. Now, the Transcarpathian Regional Local Lore Museum invites visitors to the magnificent exhibition "History of Transcarpathia from the VIII century to 1919"
Transcarpathian Beaujolais! Uzhgorod celebrates the feast of new wine together with Europe. Bohdan Andriyiv, the mayor, opens the first barrel of this year's harvest. The season of wine festivals in the region starts in a few weeks.
"Black March". The nationalists marched in Uzhgorod with flags and flares.
Foresters are rallying near the Transcarpathian Regional Council building. It is related to the Government's proposed reform of the industry, which they consider to be unacceptable, as it will change the "rules of the game" in the forestry sector. A well-organized "rally" will have a quick result: the regional deputies will support the appeal of foresters to Kyiv.
Autumn is turning into winter. In November, Uzhgorod streets look almost the same as in the following winter: not warm, but not too cold, and no snow. Apparently, pigeons on Teatralna Square like this mild winter.
...And although autumn in our review is over, we will add one photo from December 2017. The event requires attention. Because the second decade of the first month of winter was a season of big flood. Several roads were blocked, and dozens of households were flooded. Irshava district was affected the most...
...So, we completed the review of 2017 and wish 2018 to be better, more interesting, prosperous eventful, and eventually victorious! Happy New Year!
