Szijjarto promised "the protection for every member of the Hungarian community" and threatened to respond to the deportation of the Hungarian consul from Ukraine
The head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry commented on the situation with the disclosure of persons with dual citizenship in Transcarpathia - "Ukrainian interest" reported.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto promised that Budapest would "stand up for the rights of every member of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia". Thus the minister commented on the site of the "Myrotvorets" database, which disclosed personal information of four local deputies and the deputy mayor of the border town of Chop - holders of Hungarian passports from Transcarpathia.
However, Szijjarto assures that Hungary was still interested in good relations with Ukraine. However, Budapest will not allow insulting attacks on Transcarpathian Hungarians.
"If Ukraine deports the Hungarian consul, it will not be left ignored, but we hope that it can be avoided," - the Hungarian minister added.
Recall that a video of Ukrainians receiving Hungarian passports in the Hungarian Consulate in the city of Beregovo in Transcarpathia.
Then the new citizens of the country are treated with a glass of champagne and instructed not to tell about it to the Ukrainian authorities.
The Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin said that if the video is authentic, Ukraine could deport the Hungarian consul in Beregovo Matias Siladi. At the same time, Klimkin assured that Ukraine is not persecuting those Ukrainian citizens of Hungarian origin who have received passports of Hungary.
The minister plans to talk about the incident with the head of the foreign ministry of Hungary Peter Szijjarto in New York during a meeting at the UN General Assembly.
