Klimkin acknowledged the difficult situation with the Transcarpathian Hungarians

The Minister complains that residents of the border towns in Transcarpathia do not speak Ukrainian.

Many citizens of Ukraine of Hungarian origin live in border towns in Transcarpathia, some of them do not even speak Ukrainian. And Ukraine has no strategy for this situation.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin on TV.

"We (Ukraine – Ed.) actually do not have a clear strategy to support our Ukrainians of Hungarian origin. In terms of economy, what is there in Transcarpathia? I do not want to offend anyone, but there is smuggling, migration of our citizens to neighboring countries for work, and this much (shows how small the share of tourism industry is – Ed.) of tourism. What else is there? I myself saw an advertisement: "Need people for tourism with knowledge of Hungarian and Ukrainian." There is a lack of those. Two Hungarian businessmen approached me and said: "Mr. Minister, what you are doing is very good." I answer: "Thank you, but why?" They say: "Do you hear how I speak? I bearly speak. I can not fill out a tax return, and I hire a Ukrainian for that," – Klimkin said.

That is, Ukrainian citizens of Hungarian origin do not understand what is written in a tax return in Ukrainian.

At the same time, Klimkin set for Hungary a "red line", which cannot be crossed. This week, the media released a video that allegedly was shot in the Hungarian Consulate in Transcarpathia, where Ukrainian citizens are given Hungarian passports and asked not to show them to Ukrainian authorities. This caused a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. Klimkin said that the Hungarian consul would be deported to his homeland. However, the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjarto promised to take action in response.

Earlier, Hungary opposed the Ukrainian law "On Education", noting that it violates the rights of national minorities and "forces" them to study Ukrainian in schools.
