The XIX All-Ukrainian fencing tournament of the Carpathian Euroregion dedicated to the memory of Honored Coach of Ukraine Vasyl Herey has started in Uzhgorod sports complex "Yunist".
During two days, boys and girls born in 2002 and younger will be fencing with epees and foils, the Uzhgorod city council reported.
The solemn opening was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Uzhgorod Vasyl Homonay; the Head of the Department of Youth and Sports of the RSA Vitaliy Erfan; the widow of Vasyl Herey Magdalena; honored coach of Ukraine, brother of Vasyl Herey – Anatoliy Herey; his nephew – world champion and winner of European and World Championships, participant of the 2016 Olympics Anatoliy Herey; two-time Olympic silver medalist (1968, 1972) Vasyl Stankovych; the head of the Fencing Federation of Transcarpathian region Mykhailo Pantyo; the director of the Uzhgorod Youth Sports School Anatoliy Kolomiyets; the head of the Transcarpathian branch of the NOC of Ukraine Ivan Rylyak; the Director of the Youth Sports School "Dynamo" Mykola Shcherba.
Today, on the first day, more than 200 epee fencers from Ukraine, as well as Slovakia, Romania and Hungary are competing, and tomorrow foil competition will take place.
