On Sunday evening in one of the courtyards of high-rise buildings on Blagoev street (Shakhta neighbourhood), I witnessed an interesting event. Parents from the surrounding houses organized for local children a fun and enjoyable leisure – a small English lesson.
No, it was not like at school where you have to go: it was strictly on voluntary basis and absolutely free. However, the children were very happy to do it. After all, the chosen form of the lesson was quite interesting and unobtrusive: various crosswords and puzzles, games, small contests, rebuses. Some of the games, by the way, were not static, but active – with a ball, on the wall bars, and so on.
Also, residents of the surrounding high-rise buildings said that young parents in this yard are very active in general: they made a playground for their children – a sandbox, which can be closed at night and during bad weather, benches, swing, table.
It is a good example for other Uzhgorod citizens. During the vacation, children, that stay in the city, are often left by themselves and do not know what to do for fun. And it would be nice to offer them from time to time something not only interesting but also useful. There are no doubt many active people who might share with children their knowledge, hobbies, and interesting experience. And the classes can be not only for learning a foreign language.
Everybody would benefit from it. People just need to overcome their passivity and find a bit of time.
