On Wednesday, February 14, the wife of the Prime Minister of Hungary Aniko Levai, who is the goodwill ambassador of the Hungarian Ecumenical Assistance Service, visited the city of Beregovo in Transcarpathia, the Mukachevo.net reported.
With the help of the "Advance" charity fund, she delivered to local low-income people firewood, food kits and personal care packages, that were distributed among retirees and large families in the Beregovo and the border village of Astey. The total cost of the aid is 16.5 million forints.
The president of the organization, Karol Sito, said that this is only a part of the charity aid for the poor Hungarians of Transcarpathia, who are now living in difficult conditions because of the economic crisis in Ukraine, including the consequences of the military conflict in the eastern part of the country and the devaluation of the national currency.
According to Aniko Levai, most elderly people in Transcarpathia live on a meager pension of less than 15 thousand forints (about 1500 hryvnias). To help Transcarpathians, the Association of Hungarian Regional Centers (MJVSZ) has raised an amount of 100 million forints. The charity program is designed for a year.
Ivan Herevych, head of the "Advance" fund (Beregovo) noted that the implementation of the program would continue in the coming months, in particular, on Easter. Also, donations will allow to start the development of programs for 55 children with special needs in Beregovo district.
Recall that at the same time, the wife of the President of Ukraine Marina Poroshenko was visiting Uzhgorod, where she opened the first Inclusion and Resource Center in Transcarpathia.
