Avalanches in the mountains: rescuers call for caution

Rescuers urge Ukrainians to be careful when skiing in the Carpathians on December 22-24, due to level 3 avalanche hazard. This was reported by Natalia Batyr, the spokeswoman for the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region in a comment to a correspondent of the UNN.

"We have the third level of avalanche hazard here in Transcarpathia. Tourists may ski in dangerous places, so the consequences can be unpredictable. We call tourists to ski only on well-known skiing routes and do not neglect the rules and mandatory registration with rescue units," – Natalia Batyr said.
Warning is also posted on the website of the Rescue Service: "According to the UkrHydrometcenter, in connection with snowstorms, on December 22-24, significant avalanche hazard (level 3) is expected in the highlands of Ivano-Frankivsk and eastern part of Transcarpathian regions," – the report states.
Since the beginning of this year’s skiing season, which started on December 10, five tourists have gotten lost in the vicinity of the Krachunyaska valley in Rakhiv district because of thick fog. All of them were rescued.
We will add that in Lviv region during this year, rescuers have provided assistance to 214 skiers, in Ivano-Frankivsk region – 119 people have been rescued, including 11 children, and in Transcarpathia – 281 people.
