Uzhgorod trauma center: is it really overcrowded? (COMMENT)

One of the consequences of frosty winter coupled with inefficient work of the city utilities is the bad state of most Uzhgorod sidewalks. Many citizens are outraged that cars in Uzhgorod get a lot more time and attention than the safety of pedestrians.

Indeed, while roadways, especially central ones, are more or less clear, the sidewalks are covered with a thick layer of ice. Sand and salt mixture helps only partially, particularly on the slopes.

In such circumstances, the number of people getting injured on Uzhgorod streets inevitably increases. On the weekend, our readers reported that the trauma center is literally overcrowded, injured persons have to wait in the corridors for examination and x-rays.

Is it so bad? Today we visited the trauma department of the Central City Hospital.

It is difficult to say for sure what the situation is at other times or on other days. But we found a relatively quiet situation: there was one person sitting in the corridor, one patient was being examined, another girl was asking where to go for dressing. There were no queues to the radiologist too.

– Has the situation with injuries through the ice-covered ground significantly aggravated? – we asked the senior intern of the trauma center Anatoliy Didkivsky.

– I would not say that the state of the sidewalks has much influenced the number of injured people who are come for help here. For example, yesterday, there were 6 patients for that reason. Given that any day we receive 47-50 people, I do not think that this is an emergency situation. Most people get injured indoors – at home, in the gym, at work…

– We were reported about long lines at the trauma center.

– Sometimes it happens. Mostly on Sundays and Mondays, because a lot of people are reluctant to come here on weekends. But on the next working day they go to the hospital. So there is nothing to be surprised about.  But you see for yourself, everything is quite, no crowd. I can only encourage Uzhgorod residents in case of injury to promptly seek medical attention.

In any case, dear Uzhgorod residents, take care of yourselves.
