The development of skiing facilities in Transcarpathia was discussed at the “round table”

On January 13, 2017, in the hotel and restaurant complex "Katerina" (the village of Polyana in Svalyava district), there was a "round table" on the development of ski resorts in Transcarpathia. Representatives and owners of Transcarpathian ski facilities with ski lifts took part in the meeting.

The meeting was organized and hosted by the Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration on the initiative of tourism expert Fedir Shandor.

The Director of the Department of Economic Development and Trade of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Denys Man informed the participants that currently the tourism industry is subordinate to the economy – both at the state and regional levels. He stressed on the importance of a dialogue between the owners of the ski lifts and the government, because skiing is one of the priorities in the region.

Fedir Shandor asked the participants to send full information about their ski lifts at the email address of the Department of Tourism and Resorts Transcarpathian of the Regional State Administration.

Representatives of ski lifts briefly described their facilities and pointed out some of the most problematic issues, including lack of proper road pavement and hard access to the ski facilities, garbage disposal and contamination of water sources.

Another sensitive issue is outdated and flawed legislation regulating the operation of ski lifts.

At the end of the meeting, Denys Man told about the winter press tour for tour operators and national television, which is planned for the end of January 2017.
