The rulers of Uzhgorod have changed. Counts Drugets supressed the peasant revolt and established the rule over Uzhgorod for many years. It happened exactly 699 years ago, but was visualized yesterday – September 27, 2017.
Four thrushes from the Druget emblem still decorate the gate of the Uzhgorod castle, and the city itself has received many elements of European culture thanks to this family. According to various sources, Drugets have Hungarian, French and Italian origin and several European kings in the family. Their rule left various marks on the face of the city.
And in honor of the establishment of Drugets’ rule in Uzhgorod, the Reenactment Club "The Order of St. Nicholas" staged a dramatized performance with almost real fights and quite real humor. Peasants and nobles (Knights of Drugets) met at the intersection of Voloshin and Korzo streets (by the way, the name is of Italian origin) and marched to the castle, in the moat of which the culmination of the event took place.
Next year, they will celebrate the 700th anniversary of the reign of Drugets over Uzhgorod, and on this occasion they are preparing a knight festival. This event was its announcement and a kind invitation for the next year. That is why, the event has not been widely advertised and was more like a flash mob.
The next year, they will present a complete program and the knight’s order of Uzhgorod. After all, according to the organizers, Uzhgorod has long been helping to organize knight festivals in different places, but still does not have its own, and it should be rectified.
