Who will answer for the mess in Beregovo?

The Transcarpathian Regional State Administration is upset by the behavior of the right-wingers, who arranged a provocative "fire show" in Beregovo, – the press service of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration informs.

"At a time when at the central level, Ukraine is doing its best to find common ground with Hungary and to settle the misunderstandings that arose because of the education law, some fringe group is trying to drive a wedge between our two peoples by its provocative behavior,"Hennadiy Moskal says. –  The first hero from our region, who gave up his life in the war against the Russian aggressor in the Donbas, was a resident of Beregovo, a Hungarian by nationality. Xenophobic actions by people with covered faces under the guise of patriotic slogans are unacceptable in Ukraine, especially in multinational regions like Transcarpathia.

The Mayor of Beregovo, Zoltan Babyak also commented on the yesterday’s incident, the Mukachevo.net reported: "Currently, the relations between Ukraine and Hungary are complicated, which automatically affects the relations between the two nations. In spite of this, our city managed to preserve peace between nationalities, tolerance, which was always characteristic of multicultural Beregovo, where representatives of different nationalities live. That is why everything that happened on Sunday, November 12th, in our city is incomprehensible to us. The announced event was supposed to be peaceful. Instead, the action became an event whose purpose was to intimidate. The participants of the action turned Beregovo into almost a battlefield: smoke clouds were hovering over the city, explosions were heard. People were afraid, children were crying.

Particularly outrageous is the fact that the participants of the march changed the previously agreed route, and went to the Hungarian Consulate General, and then stopped near the City Council building and removed the Hungarian national flag, which was hanging next to the Ukrainian flag, the flag of Beregovo and the EU flag, in accordance with the current legislation. In this regard, I want to note that the flag is not their property, so we will report it to the police." – the Mayor Zoltan Babyak added.
