Transcarpathian deputies will ask to re-route trains from Uzhgorod to the capital via Perechyn and the town of Velyky Berezny

Draft decision "On the appeal of the Transcarpathian Regional Council on the organization of railway communication from Velyky Berezny and Perechyn to the capital of Ukraine" addressed to the public joint stock company "Ukrzaliznytsia" is to be considered at the third plenary meeting of the seventh session of the Regional Council to be held on July 27, this year.

The document states that  currently there is the problem of lack of railway communication berween the capital and certain districts of Transcarpathia.

"The vast majority of passenger train routes run through the Beskyd-Skotarsky tunnel, which is now very overloaded. Meanwhile, there is only one passenger train number 601 "Lviv – Solotvyno" on the other railway route, which causes social tension among residents of Perechyn and Velyky Berezny districts.

Some villages in these districts have an extremely powerful recreation potential and unique for Ukraine natural and climatic conditions: there are many hotel and tourist complexes, ski resorts, rural households there, which are visited by thousands of tourists from all over Ukraine and abroad.

The lack of railway infrastructure in Perechyn and Velyky Berezny districts negatively affects the organization of transportation of passengers, the development of tourist infrastructure of the region, creates additional inconvenience for residents and tourists.

Given the social, economic and tourist aspect of this problem, please consider re-routing one of the trains Uzhgorod – Kyiv with stops in the city of Perechyn and the town of Velyky Berezny, which will increase the tourist appeal of Transcarpathia, relieve social tension among the population, and improve the economic situation in the highlands", the draft appeals reads.
