Transcarpathian deputies will ask government officials to restore railway communication Solotvyno – Velyky Bychkiv

The Department of Housing, Construction, and Infrastructure of the RSA, at the initiative of the head of the RSA, has prepared for consideration of the deputies a draft appeal of the Transcarpathian Regional Council on restoration of the railway traffic on Solotvyno – Velyky Bychkiv section of Lviv Railway addressed to the Government of Ukraine.

The document states: "Rakhiv district has an enormous recreation potential and the climatic conditions unique to Ukraine. There are many ski resorts in the district that provide services to thousands of tourists from all over Ukraine and from abroad, and the railway communication between the cities of Kyiv and Rakhiv is important for Transcarpathia.

It should be noted that the industrial potential of Rakhiv district is mostly concentrated in the village of Velyky Bychkiv, whose share in total sales of industrial production of the region in recent years has been about 70.0 percent. However, because of damage to the railway tracks on Solotvyno – Velyky Bychkiv section by landslides during the flood in 2001, Rakhiv district currently has no railway communication with the regional center. All transportation in the direction of Uzhgorod is carried out only by road.

The Regional Council and the Regional State Administration have repeatedly appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and central executive authorities on restoration of the train traffic on Solotvyno – Velyky Bychkiv section. The lack of railway communication from the village of Velyky Bychkiv has a negative impact on the organization of passenger and cargo transportation, the development of trade relations between business entities, creates additional inconvenience for residents and tourists.

In addition, landslide processes that go on at the aforementioned section pose a real threat for the road of national importance H-09 Mukachevo – Ivano-Frankivsk – Rohatyn – Lviv.

In view of both social and environmental aspects of the problem, please instruct the "UZ" PJSC to take measures to contain landslides and restore railway traffic on Solotvyno – Velyky Bychkiv section of Lviv railway."

The draft decision "On the appeal of the Transcarpathian Regional Council on restoration of the railway traffic on Solotvyno – Velyky Bychkiv section of Lviv Railway" was published in advance on the site of the Regional Council here: http://zakarpat-rada.gov.ua/category/proekty-rishennya/

Recall that the next plenary meeting of the seventh session will be held on July 27, 2017.
