The history of combating drug trafficking or at least attempts to somehow control it goes back almost 100 years. In February, 1909, the Shanghai Opium Commission, consisting of representatives of 13 countries, tried to find ways to limit the importation of drugs from Asia. Today, almost a century later, we are far from solving the problem.
In 1987, the UN General Assembly decided to observe June 26 as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen activities and cooperation to achieve the goal of creating an international society free of drug abuse.
