"Lavender Castle" – this is how known local historian and the "main tourist of Transcarpathia" Fedir Shandor called this flower attraction in Uzhgorod fortress.
Lavender flower beds have bloomed in the courtyard of the Transcarpathian Local Lore Museum. This exotic flower has become not just a decoration, but a new attraction, which has the potential to become one of the flower highlights of Transcarpathia. Especially since flowers now are one of the new trends of the tourism in Transcarpathia, Fedir Shandor said:
"The experiment was a success. The lavender has taken roots and bloomed here. This is the largest lavender location in Transcarpathia. With this flower we follow the "floral trend", which is very popular this year. Just a few years ago, our crocus or saffron were not so famous. And now, the valleys in Kolochava, in the "Berezynka" park and in the mountains attract tourists from all over the country. They are followed by famous daffodils. Of course, magnolia and sakura. Later, a poppy field near Uzhgorod suddently became famous through social networks. Now, we have the "Lupine Valley" in Perechyn district, in Rakovo and the "Iris Valley" in Uzhgorod district (Nyzhnye Solotvyno), as well as lots of flowers in the city that have taken roots well. Of course, our linden alley, which is blooming now. Also, we are waiting for yellow water lilies on the water bodies of Transcarpathia… In Uzhgorod, we also have catalpa and sophora blooming right now. And so one, until autumn, when the Rozmary Valley in Velyky Berezny district will bloom in October."
