Unusual farms in Transcarpathia that should be visited

Among the tourist attractions of Transcarpathia, there are not only architectural monuments, natural wonders, but also… agriculture. At least, this is stated by a Lviv portal, which made a rating of unusual farms that should be visited. 5 of those 9 original locations are in ​​Transcarpathia. Of course, this is not a complete list of interesting farms in Transcarpathia, but it’s worth reminding addresses. So,

Deer Farm, Lypcha

Noble animals are waiting for you in Transcarpathia. The deer farm has existed since the 1980s. Animals are kept there for medicinal material. Deer antlers are used with a medicinal purpose. At the moment, there are 150 animals on the farm. And their only purpose is to delight tourists when they come to look at the deers. The color is bright red with white spots. It gets a bit darker in the winter.

"Mangalica" pig farm, Botar

You have never seen pigs like that! Hairy, or, as they are also called, "sheep" pigs are covered with wool. This allows the animals to survive cold season. So they can even sleep in the open. They are also grazed like sheep. They look for roots and feed on them. In general, the "menu" of these animals is rich, they eat 100 different plants. The owners of the farm feed them barley and other grain, because the pig should be fed to 120-140 kilograms.

Gray cow farm, Botar

In the same village you can visit another farm. Here, they are breeding Hungarian gray cows. The animals are unusual not only for their color, but also for very threatening but beautiful horns. But these cows do not give milk.Bulls can weigh 800-900 kilograms. In the 20th century this breed was on the brink of extinction. In Hungary, there were only 600 animals. Fortunately, the cows were saved and their number multiplied.

Trout ponds, Kolochava

If you ask a Transcarpathian, which fish from the local rivers is the most delicious, you will receive an unequivocal answer – trout. That is why, this species is found not only in the rivers. In Transcarpathia, there are several trout farms. One of them is in Kolochava. There are several swimming pools full of these fish. Younger and older are in different pools, because adult fish are quite aggressive to youngsters. At the trout farm you can try yourself as a fisherman. Local chefs will cook the caught fish for you.

Carpathian buffalo farm, Steblivka

On the verge of extinction! This breed was once very widespread in the Carpathians. Buffaloes were kept in almost every household. But every year their number was decreasing. So, enthusiasts decided to save them. One of them is a German Michel Jacobi, who came to Transcarpathia in 2006. He became the manager at the Carpathian buffalo farm. The farmer assures: buffaloes are more profitable, because they are less skittish than cows. And the buffalo milk is better, because it contains more calcium, phosphorus, vitamins, especially group B. A trip to the farm will be not only interesting, but also good for health.
