In June, 10 people in Transcarpathia fell ill with measles, doctors encourage to get vaccinated immediately

According to the Ministry of Health, since the beginning of 2017, the number of reported cases of measles in Ukraine has increased. The sharp rise of the incidence occurred in July: 473 persons fell ill with measles, that almost doubled the number of patients since the beginning of the year increasing it to 962. In total, during six months of this year, 520 cases of measles were recorded in Ivano-Frankivsk region, another 344 cases – in Odesa region, 48 – in Ternopil, 11 – in Dnipropetrovsk, 9 – in Vinnytsia, 8 – in Chernivetsi region.

Two children (2 and 3 years old), who were not vaccinated, died of pneumonia following measles in Odesa Regional Children’s Hospital.

In Transcarpathia, isolated cases have been recorded since the beginning of 2017.

According to the head of the epidemiological surveillance and infectious diseases prevention department of the Transcarpathian Regional Laboratory Center of the MoH of Ukraine Victoria Tymchyk, as of June 30, 2017, 10 measles cases have been registered in the region (six of them – in June!). Among the patients, there are six children under 17 years old. Some of the patients in 2017 did not take all the necessary doses of vaccine or were not vaccinated against measles at all.

Today all vaccination offices of the region have the Belgian combined vaccine "Priorix" (measles, mumps, rubella).

But parents do not rush to protect their children from the dangerous disease! To date, only 24.1% of children aged 1 to 2 have been vaccinated against measles, and the number of those, who have been re-vaccinated at 6-12 years old, is only 5.8%.

Doctors appeal to parents asking them not to risk the health (and sometimes even life!!!) of their children and have them vaccinated immediately.

The risk of catching the disease is increasing enormously, especially given the migration of people for vacation.
