Yesterday, officers of Khust local prosecutor’s office, together with officers of the Economic Crime Department in Transcarpathian region and investigator of Khust police department arrested the chief inspector of the State Architecture and Construction Inspectorate in Transcarpathian region while he was receiving undue benefit in amount of 10,000 UAH.
As explained by the head of Khust local prosecutor’s office Serhiy Zovdun, the arrest was made following the preliminary investigation in the criminal proceeding over the receipt of undue benefit combined with extortion (Part 3 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). It was established that in return for registration and issuance of the declaration of completion of construction and putting the building in operation, the chief inspector demanded from a Transcarpathian a total of 18,000 UAH, 8,000 of which he had received with the first tranche, before his arrest by law enforcement officers.
Currently, priority investigation measures are being taken, the official was detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and a request for imposition of a pretrial restraint on him is being prepared.
Reference: the sanction of the article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of five to ten years, with disqualification to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.
Recall that the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal has accused the Architecture and Construction Inspectorate of setting "tariffs" for every square meter of new housing. Because of that, the amount of housing construction in the region is decreasing.
