Today, February 7, the Court of Appeal of Transcarpathian region considered the appeal of the regional prosecutor Yuriy Pekhnyo. He asks to change the pretrial restraint for Stanislav Ponomarev who is involved in the bribery scandal in Uzhgorod City Council, the GalagovTV informs.
Before that the investigating judge of Uzhgorod city and district court appointed the bail in amount of 96,000 UAH. The prosecutor’s office wants to increase this amount to 480,000 UAH.
"We believe that the trial court acted within the law. Moreover, the prosecutor did not specify the amount of bail then, and now they want to change it. By the way, the prosecution never explained how Mr. Hromadsky handed the money to my client. The previous bail was paid by Stanislav Ponomarev’s wife, she is an entrepreneur. It was at the time, when my client was in hospital. I think the prosecution’s complaint is unfounded," – Ponomarev’s lawyer said.
The court partially upheld the appeal of the prosecutor’s office and increased the amount of bail to 240,000 UAH.
"It is an exorbitant amount for me. We’ll be looking. What else can I do, it’s the court decision? The previous bail was raised by my wife. Now, we will be raising it with relatives again" – Stanislav Ponomarev said.
Recall, in late January, the chairman of the land comission of Uzhgorod City Council Stanislav Ponomarev was notified of being suspected of involvement in bribery.
