Public projects were discussed in Uzhgorod

A working meeting with representatives of local public organizations regarding the opportunities of taking part in the competition for the communities of Transcarpathian region from the Office of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Ukraine took place in Uzhgorod City Council, with the participation of the managing director of the executive committee of the City Council Olena Makara, and on the initiative of the head of the city organization of the Women's Union of Ukraine, the chairwoman of Uzhgorod city organization of the Red Cross Society Valentina Mytrovtsiy.

The IOM Mission in Ukraine, under the auspices of the European Union, is conducting a competition for Transcarpathian communities in the framework of the project "Facilitating the Rebuilding and Sustainable Resolution of Problems of IDPs and the Victims of the Conflict in Ukraine", the goal of which is the integration of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and members of host communities through social cohesion of the population. To participate in the competition, it is necessary to create an initiative group of at least 15 people, which must obligatory include representatives of socially vulnerable groups (internally displaced persons, national minorities, people with special needs and others), as well as to provide ideas and a preliminary plan of measures.

During the meeting, many ideas were discussed - from various events (exhibitions, trainings, festivals, etc.) to the creation of a special children's room, coworking or social space for the community at libraries and other cultural facilities. However, the main idea was the creation of the NGO Volunteer Training Center, in which volunteers from different civic organizations will meet weekly for training, planning and conducting a variety of charity events, learning first-aid skills and other social cohesion measures.

At the moment, they are looking for the premises for the Center and hoping for the assistance of the Uzhgorod City Council in this matter.

After closing the competition, the IOM will select communities to conduct an assessment visit, following which the winning communities will be determined. The maximum amount of the grant to support social cohesion measures will be up to 12,000 euros, the Uzhgorod City Council informs.
