On August 10, at 18:20, the rescue service of Transcarpathia received from the police a report that a young child was walking on the balcony of one of the apartments located on the fourth floor of a residential building on Plekhanov street in Uzhgorod. There was a high risk that the child could have fallen down from the balcony.
Wasting no time, a crew of firefighters and a ladder of the 14th state fire and rescue unit were sent at the scene.
The rescuers, who arrived at the scene, assessed the situation. The entrance door to the apartment, where the two-year-old boy was walking on the balcony, was locked from the inside.
And they could not get to the child using the ladder because of the trees growing on the adjoining territory. Then, the commander of the rescue crew Yosyp Morgenthal decided to enter the apartment through the adjacent balcony of the neighboring apartment.
The rescuer talked to the child and persuaded him to move away from the balcony. Then, with the help of two of his colleagues, Vasyl Turyanytsia and Ivan Bobak, he successfully reached the balcony and took the child inside the apartment. It turned out that the boy’s mother was there. However, she had been sleeping all that time and did not even know that her child had been in danger.
Rescuers once again appeal to parents asking not to leave their children without adult supervision! Look after them and protect them from danger.
