Re-election of the mayor will be held in Mizhhirya

On Sunday, January 31, the re-election of the mayor will be held in the town of Mizhhirya in Transcarpathian region.

The OPORA states: the situation in Mizhhirya set a precedent of circumvention of the requirement of Part 11 of Article 86 of the Law of Ukraine "On local elections."

So, the situation in Mizhhirya should become a subject of legal debate. The legislator has not come up with mechanisms of protection against untimely actions of election commissions, through which the logic of election to local councils and priorities in distribution of mandates can be broken. Actually, the principle of priority of the mandate of a local council chairman over the mandate of a local council deputy can be subject to debate. Because in developed democracies, a candidate himself has the right to choose which mandate to take in case of winning different elections.
