At the checkpoint “Mali Selmentsi”, a customs officer demanded from a participant of the ATO 1,600 Euro (PHOTOS)

Law enforcers have published the official version of the incident at the checkpoint.

According to preliminary reports, a 42-year-old customs officer, a senior state inspector of the post organized a criminal scheme to import valuables ​​without paying the required fees. Of course, in return for a bribe, it is said in the statement of the Economy Department of National Police of Ukraine.

During the investigation, the investigators recorded extortion of EUR 1,600 bribe from a veteran for the provision of services and receipt of the money. 

And yesterday, October 12, the senior inspector of the customs post was detained. At the international checkpoint, he received from the ATO participant a bribe of EUR 1,100.

The Military Prosecutor’s Office of Western Ukraine opened criminal proceeding over this incident under Part 3 of Art. 368 (Acceptance of an offer, promise or obtaining of undue advantage by an official) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Currently, the corrupt official is detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Detectives are checking the involvement of other customs officers in the corruption activities.
