Transcarpathia is taking breath and calculating damage after weather anomalies

On November 6-7, intense precipitation in the form of rain was observed in the region (up to 160 mm, more than 2 monthly norms), the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region reported.

On 7.11.2016, due to a rapid rise of ground water, stream, river levels, 58 yards (Perechyn, Mizhhirya, Volovets, Svalyava, Mukachevo, Velyky Berezny districts and the city of Uzhgorod), 40 hectares of farmland (Irshava district) were flooded, 1 reinforced concrete bridge (the city of Svalyava) was damaged, Perechyn water intake was flooded, pavement of the roads of local level (1410 m) was partly washed out, gabion net (40-50 meters) was undermined and two wooden bridges to residential buildings (Mizhhirya district) were destroyed. Due to waterlogged soil and intense rainfall, landslides in total volume of 350 cubic meters were recorded.

As of 17:00 on November 8, the works to eliminate consequences of emergency at the city water intake in Perechyn are completed, and at 18:00 centralized water supply was resumed in full. On November 7, because of flooded wells of Perechyn water intake, centralized water supply to 1117 consumers in the residential sector (3370 people) was cut off. Two vehicles were used for delivery of potable water.

As of 18:00 on November 8, no residential homes, yards and farmland in the region are flooded. On upper and middle reaches of most rivers, a significant drop of flood water levels is observed.

During November 8, units of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region employed 3 vehicles and 13 rescue workers to pump water from 5 basements of residential buildings and 2 facilities (kindergarten and tourist base). 130 cubic meters of water was pumped out.

In total, since the beginning of the work, units of the State Emergencies Service of Ukraine Office in Transcarpathian region have pumped out about 6130 cubic meters from 49 households (including 35 basements of residential buildings) and 2 basement of facilities (kindergarten and tourist base).
