The 4th Ukrainian Academy of Integrated Urban Development continues in the "Owl's Nest" (PHOTO)
As noted in his opening speech by the GIZ project coordinator Oksana Oliynyk, this year, the Academy has a record number of participants - at least one hundred. Representatives of 27 cities came to Uzhgorod.
The Acting Mayor of Uzhgorod, Deputy Mayor Istvan Tsap noted that this year's Academy is unique for several reasons: because of a record number of participants and because it is held this year in a unique city - Uzhgorod, which recently celebrated the 1123rd anniversary of the first mention of it. In Uzhgorod, there are 23 monuments of architecture and urban planning, 8 of which are of national importance, as well as 11 monuments of monumental art 11 and 7 archaeological monuments.
The Academy is taking place in a unique place - a monument of national importance of the 18th century "Owl's Nest.
Jürgen Lembke, GIZ project manager, told about the project, which has been implemented for several years now by Lviv City Council and the GIZ GmbH and is aimed at overcoming the problems of preservation of historical heritage of Lviv. He said that he was very glad to be in a beautiful ancient city of Uzhgorod, where there are many active people who care for the preservation of the city historical heritage.
Currently, the practical part of the conference is taking place, moderators, representatives from different cities of Ukraine and abroad are presenting concepts of urban development, creating platforms for discussion of the city development with residents, scientists and NGO representatives.
The key topic will be the impact of cultural projects, combined with the preservation of cultural (architectural) heritage, on urban development processes.
Along with that, the group of representatives of the urban cultural heritage protection organizations will be working on recommendations to the Law of Ukraine "On Protection of Cultural Heritage."
An important aspect of the Academy's activity is the use of the obtained results in further activities and exchange of experiences and strengthening of cooperation between the cities of Ukraine, as well as discussion of future prospects with government authorities.
