Border guards detained three "divers" and a batch of smuggled cigarettes

Due to enhanced measures being actively taken by the State Border Guard Service officers to stop illegal activities at the state border, criminals are constantly trying to find new ways and means of moving contraband goods.

To counter systemic violations, Ukrainian border guards are working closely with their counterparts from neighboring countries. Thus, on the border with Romania, last night, as a result of joint actions, Ukrainian and Romanian border guards detained a group of persons attempting to move contraband cigarettes across the border. The offenders chose a route across the Tisa river, and used wetsuits.

Border guards of the department "Dilove" of the Mukachevo Detachment first noticed several persons moving along the river. Organizing the cooperation with Romanian colleagues, who also noticed those persons, a border guard patrol was immediately sent for detention. Soon, three citizens in diving suits were detained.   The men, who identified themselves as citizens of Ukraine, had no documents. Later, while checking the surrounding area, border guards found 16 packages of cigarettes that the offenders planned to deliver to Romania.

The found citizens and the packages of cigarettes were taken to the border guard unit. Currently, the measures to ascertain the circumstances of the offense are being taken, and then the tobacco products will be handed over to the fiscal service.
