Transcarpathian pyrotechnics destroyed two artillery shells of the World War II period

On March 2, on the territory of Uzhgorod district, two explosive items were found. The first item was found in the village of Antalovtsi, and the second one – in Horyany neighborhood in Uzhgorod.

The Rescue Service of Transcarpathia was reported about a suspicious metal object found in the forest near the village of Antalovtsi. A man found the explosive item near a stream and immediately notified rescuers. Experts of the pyrotechnic group of the special purpose rescue unit were sent at the scene, where they seized the artillery shell of 152 mm caliber, transported it to the military range in the village of Orikhovytsya and destroyed it.

Another dangerous item was found in Uzhgorod neighbourhood of Horyany by local residents. The suspicious object was in a ditch 50 meters from a residential house. After the disposal of the first explosive item, pyrotechnics went to Horyany and identified the found object as the same 152 mm artillery shell of the Second World War period. Rescuers transported it to the military ground in the village of Orikhovytsya, and on March 3 in the morning destroyed it.

Transcarpathian rescuers once again urge citizens to be careful and cautious during excavation works or walks in the woods, because at any time a person can come across the echoes of war. If this occurs, do not touch suspicious metallic object ormove it to another location. It is strictly forbidden to try to defuse the explosive yourselves. Instead, mark the location and inform the authorities, local government, police or call the emergency service 101.
