The Hungarian Government will help to establish a monument to Kobzar in Beregovo
This was announced at a press conference in Beregovo by the Hungarian government commissioner Dr. Istvan Hrezha, the goloskarpat.info reports
Other priorities are: material support for the city social kitchen and repair of the House of Culture.
In general, the Hungarian Government allocates 40,000 euros for the implementation of the three programs announced by István Hrezha.
"And we are pleased - the commissioner said - that not only Hungarians, but also representatives of other nationalities will be taking advantage of them."
This position is also shared by the Mayor of Beregovo. As for the monument to Kobzar, he believes that the Ukrainian population of Beregovo district has the right to their national monument. Unfortunately, the initiative group, which initiated fundraising for the construction of the monument to Taras Shevchenko, has made little in recent years: they chose a site for the statue, made a pedestal for it and... stopped. That is why the Hungarian Government decided to assist in the erection of the monument.
Istvan Hrezha said that Hungarians deeply revere the memory of the brilliant Ukrainian poet, each time, together with the Ukrainian community in Budapest, they lay wreaths at the monument to him in the Hungarian capital on the occasion of his anniversary.
On March 15, Beregovo public will traditionally lay flowers to the monument of a passionate revolutionary poet Sandor Petofi. On the occasion of the neighboring state's national holiday, there will be a rally-requiem.
"I hope that this event will be attended by Ukrainian activists too - the Mayor Zoltan Babyak says.- Just like the Hungarians will attend the opening of the monument to Shevchenko. I believe that the places, where the monuments to two geniuses will be standing, will become a tourist mecca for representatives of different nationalities."
