Today, selected works of people’s artist of Ukraine Vasyl Skakandiy are exhibited in the "Uzhgorod" gallery. Heads of the regional and local authorities, representatives of the culture of the region, the union members, fellow teachers, many fans came to congratulate the artist of the 75th anniversary.
The exhibition features about fifty works that show the artist achievements in various forms, genres and techniques of fine arts of different periods.
As recalled by the author himself, his path in art began in school days from the Palace of Pioneers, continued at the graphic faculty of the Kyiv State Art Institute. Then, the work in the publishing house "Karpaty", where the artist designed dozens of books by classics of Ukrainian literature (O.Kobylianska, V. Stefanik, M.Tomchaniy, P.Skunts et al.). Then, joining the ranks of the regional branch of the Union of Artists of Ukraine, which Vasyl Skakandiy managed from 1985 to the 1991. Meanwhile, the artist takes active part in plein airs, and his works are exhibited not only at home but also in Hungary, Romania, Slovakia, Yugoslavia, France, Canada and the USA. In the past 15 years, Vasyl Skakandiy has been teaching at the Uzhgorod College of Arts, and later – at the Transcarpathian Art Institute.
The exhibition will run for two weeks.
