Yesterday, in the premises of the Transcarpathian Organization of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine in Uzhgorod, there was the presentation of a new publication – "Legends of the Silver Rus" by journalist, writer, playwright Oleksander Havrosh.
The book was published at public expense under the regional program to support the publication of works by local authors.
According to Oleksandr Havrosh, the idea to write the book occurred to him 8 years ago. Then, the first texts about castles of Transcarpathia were written. Some were even published in pamphlet form. The owner of St. Miklos castle in Chynadiyevo of Mukachevo district Yosyp Bartosz, who came to the presentation, said that Oleksandr had visited the castle a few times, learnt historical facts about the castle. The legend "Black Wine of Love" about the love of Countess Ilona Zrinya and Count Imre Tekeli is dedicated in the book to this castle.
Known Uzhgorod historian Yosyp Kobal says: "Yes, there are some historical inaccuracies in the publication. For example, Zsigmond Perényi was an earl, not a baron. This title did not yet exist in the 13th century. Or, for example, Borzhava castle is mentioned. But it was a fort, not a castle. However, this is not a historical book. So the writer is entitled to a fantasy, speculation. It’s much worse, when a historian tries to write a literary work."
Experts are now predicting a considerable popularity for the publication. First of all, because of gorgeous design with illustrations made by Oleksandra Harkusha, the director of Uzhgorod publishing house of the same name. And finally, books with fairy tales, legends have always been the most popular genre among readers of all time.
