Discommunization from Moskal: Lennon Street instead of Lenin Street
As we reported, the head of the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration Hennadiy Moskal signed an order on renaming of pro-communism streets in settlements of the region in furtherance of the Law of Ukraine "On the condemnation of Communist and National Socialist (Nazi) totalitarian regimes in Ukraine and the prohibition of their symbols."
In particular, Lenin Street in the village of Kalyny in Tyachiv district was renamed into John Lennon street (singer and composer, member of the group "The Beatles").
Hennadiy Moskal told about this name change: "I was so impressed by the love of residents of Kalyny village in Tyachiv district to Lenin that I decided to leave him there. Just with a little change - two letters. They can not say goodbye to Lenin in their hearts. We met a chairman of the village council there. It was morning, but he was already drunk. He said - Lenin has always been, is and will be in our village. I said - if so, let him be. But he will be called differently. If you can not part with Vladimir Lenin, although it is his pseudoname, we will give you Lennon, given that you love Lenin so much".
As residents of the village of Mynai told Uzhgorod.in, there is Zhovtneva street and square in the village and they still have not been renamed...
