At the City Council session, people are arguing about Uzhgorod Master Plan

The plenary session of Uzhgorod city council today is heated.

After a few technical decisions on the establishment of house committees, they began considering the most controversial issue – making adjustments to the Master Plan.

Currently, the lively discussion continues. According to activists, the proposed adjustments will allow to build up the last green areas.

The Mayor Andriyiv argues that adjustments are needed so that the city could continue to manage its property, and developers could receive the documents they need.

Representative of the Public Council, lawyers and deputies speak. The lawyer of one of the developers insists that failure to adopt the decision will paralyze their work. The activists say that Uzhgorod needs free areas and green space, not more buildings.

The closer to the vote, the more tense is the atmoshere.

Some deputies emphasize that the development of the city without providing green areas is impossible.

Also they stress that the adjustment is being adopted without observance of the procedures, including proper public debate.   As of 11:00, factions "Solidarnist" and "Samopomich" said that they would vote against it.

At 11.15, the faction "Nash Krai" said the same noting that whoever votes for this Master Plan, will lose its seat in the Council.

Community activist and human rights activist Vitaliy Gregor reminded the deputies that the law prohibits amending city planning documents, therefore the voting may entail criminal liability.
