An international level ice arena will be built in Uzhgorod

Yesterday, there was a meeting of the Mayor of Uzhgorod Bogdan Andriyiv, the president of the Ukrainian Federation of Figure Skating Yevhen Larin and the newly appointed head of the regional branch of the Federation in Transcarpathian region Vasyl Yabryka. They discussed the prospects of construction of a winter multifunctional arena in the regional center, which will promote and raise the level of winter sports development in Transcarpathia.

The arena will be built in three stages. At the first one, they plan to build a field, on the second one, to cover it with the dome. The third stage involves the construction of auxiliary facilities, ie administrative building with locker rooms, rooms for rest and recovery of athletes. The winter palace will be of the Olympic model – field 30 x 60 meters, designed for at least 800 seats.

As noted, Uzhgorod has a unique geographical location – proximity to the borders of the EU. This will allow in the future to hold not only the national championships here, but also international competition.

With the construction of the ice arena, athletes will have the opportunity to train 9 months in a calendar year, ie full training cycle, not just 3 months, as it is now. The arena will be a common base for training of hockey players and figure skaters, and in the future – speed skaters. We can train athletes, who in the future, without exaggeration, will be able to compete with the masters of the international level. – the official page of Uzhgorod city council informs.
