At the 10th anniversary festival "Mukachevo Summer 2016", which brought together 370 participants from all over Ukraine, except Crimea, and 6 neighboring countries, a national record for the most mass simultaneous game of chess was set.
The previous similar record was set with the participation of 307 players in Odessa.
"We have got participants from all regions of Ukraine, except Crimea. There are chess players from Russia, Hungary, Belarus, Moldova, Azerbaijan and Poland. Our tournament is held by Swiss system, that is, each participant will play 9 parties. Based on the results, the player with the most points is the winner. That is the strongest chess players will play with each other in the final game" - the chief judge of the tournament Mykola Keyk told the reporter of Uzhgorod.in.
Overall, the tournament will run until July 4. Every day, the festival participants will play two parties: one in the morning, another in the afternoon. The competition is held in several age and professional categories.
"10 years ago, we had the idea to organize a chess festival for children in Mukachevo. Then, 70 participants took part in it. Everyone was so pleased, that we decided to make the festival a traditional event. In the subsequent years, we invited adult players too, and this year we decided to set a record. I am glad that some participants have come here for the fifth time, that means that we are doing everything right," - Oleksandr Fediv, the head of Mukachevo Chess Club, the organizer of the tournament said.
