The press conference on "Tourism brand the city: what Uzhgorod needs it for and what it should be like" took place in Uzhgorod Press Club.
The creative director of the initiative for the development of the city brand "Uzhgorod speaks many languages" Dominic Levitsky said: "We decided to create something cool for our city, to try our hand and see the reaction of people. From the idea of a simple logo it evolved into a whole style of the city. Judging by the reactions of people, 80% like it. The idea is the combination of a Ukrainian letter with non-Ukrainian ones. We thought about what Uzhgorod is associated with, and decided to show how different cultures are combined here. Marks above the letter "y" are from letters of different languages that are used in the city. If people like it, then we will continue working on the logo and the style in general."
Designer-developer Yuriy Tarasyuk said: "Compared with designing a logo for a company, designing a logo for the city was more difficult, because there are many residents, it is difficult to find one way to convey what makes Uzhgorod different from other cities."
"In addition to the logo, we have made a set of "icons" and instructions how to use them. It was an interesting team work", – the designer-developer Mykhailo Klyap said.
To promote the logo, the developers planned to arrange a photo shoot – anyone will be able to take a picture with it. Also, they are negotiating with the City Council on the implementation of the proposed style at the official level.
As for the criticism, some think that the logo is too simple, others do not understand the idea. Therefore, the authors will work on explaination of their vision.
The commercial value of such work, which the designers have done for their city, is several thousand dollars, the fonts alone are $ 150. But the guys are willing to donate their work for free. You can see it on the website http://uzhhorod.city.
