According to the head of the Research Institute for Migration Daniel Horvath, in the near future it is unlikely that smugglers will send migrants to Italy through Turkey. In his speech on state television, the expert said that the reason for this is conscientious attitude of Turkey to the requirements of the European Commission on visa liberalization and regarding combating illegal migrants in contact with Turkey.
He added that the wave of migrants could not reach Hungary through Romania.
The researcher also believes that it is unlikely that the migrant route runs through Albania, "the dominant route" through geographical barriers. The most likely option, the researcher adds, is that "the alternative route could run through Bulgaria or maybe through Black Sea and Ukraine."
Regarding the deportation of migrants, Daniel Horvath said that the agreement would not affect more than 90 percent of migrants stuck in Greece, as they had come there before the 20th of March.
Under the agreement between the EU and Turkey of March 18 aimed at stopping migrants heading to Europe, the deportation of migrants, who illegally have come to Greece and its islands and whose applications have been denied by the Greek authorities after March 20, began on Monday.
